By Erin Pillman
Live presentations and music PLUS live webcast from TEDxWomen events in New York and Los Angeles!
The event runs from 10 am to 8pm with breaks throughout the day. Each presentation will last a maximum of 18 minutes.
Continuing the global conversation that started at TEDWomen in 2010 about how women and girls are the future.
Local speakers and performers include Pam Whitworth of the Shanti Children’s Foundation, Phyllis Khare on how “Women are Made for Socia Media” and Sharon Bousquet.
Live viewing event from TED Talks in New York and LA featuring actress Jane Fonda, Lamis Zein, the woman who heads an all-female bomb-disposal unit in Lebanon, the television personality Barbara Walters, the amazing singer-songwriter Morley; social-media maven Tiffany Shlain, Vietnam refugee and tech entrepreneur Tan Le, documentarian Jennifer Newsom, and cultural anthropologist Mary Catherine Bateson. Also in the line up, Dr. Oz, who hosts a daily show focusing on medical health, and Gloria Steinem, an American feminist, journalist, and social/political activist, speaking about re-imaging a world with true gender equality. Shamila Kohestani, shares her moving story as captain of Afghanistan’s first National Women’s Football team.
As an exciting addition, the TEDxWomen stage will welcome young women throughout the day, such as fashion icon Tavi Gevinson and South African teen Busisiwe Mkhumbuzi to share the insights of a younger female perspective.
TED is a non-profit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It was introduced to public in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then the scope has become even broader. Along with two annual conferences – in Long Beach and Palm Springs every Spring and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh Scotland every Summer. These conferences bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes or less).
